The Emergent Edge
The Emergent Edge series started in Duluth, Minnesota, and continued in Placitas, New Mexico in the summer of 2023. The small works on paper and canvas were featured at Wild Hearts Gallery
in Placitas, NM, for the month of October, 2023.

This gallery is a small retrospective sampling of work from the Placitas years, 1984 to the present. It includes collaborative work from the Convergence Studios (now Divergent) years. Images begin with the “Creatures of the Night” series and move to the “Changing Woman” series, to more recent and abstract work, the collaborations, and mixed media “Spirits.”

Riha Rothberg was born in Omaha, Nebraska, raised in St. Louis, Missouri, and has lived in Placitas, New Mexico since1984. Since 2022, she and her husband, Mark Jensen (a native Minnesotan), also call Duluth, Minnesota home.
Musician parents kept the Arts front and center, and her maternal grandparents taught her the joy of creating and the pride of craftsmanship. She holds a BFA and was educated at Washington University, Instituto Allende, Lindenwood College, Louisiana Tech, and was an artist-in-residence at Alfred University, teaching collaborative art. Learning is an ongoing process.
Often inspired by dreams, Riha's paintings, prints and constructions evoke a sense of timelessness; emotions and memories are stirred, fantasies rekindled. She enjoys shifting between large and small scale expressions and tends to work in series: Changing Woman, Vessels, Clotheslines, the Bundles (sculpture), the Emergent Edge, and currently, the Momentum series. The Raven Series, more figurative, was inspired by her good fortune to know Poe, a local New Mexican corvid. Mosaic installation by commission and small mosaic wall pieces have been interrupted by the plethora of driftwood and stone offered by Lake Superior, and the Drifters and Stoners series arrived. Their brief existence allows for a photograph, and then they are gone.
She founded the Placitas Studio Tour in 1998, and was its director for its first seventeen years.
